Wellness In Every Season
Episode 146: Why Wellness?
What if treating yourself like your most valuable asset changed everything? In this energizing conversation, Autumn sits down with Nancy Lynne Griffin, connector, influencer, and founder of Women, Worth & Wellness Inc., to explore the real “why” behind wellness—and why women must put their oxygen mask on first. Nancy shares how decades in wealth advising revealed a hard truth: before women can plan their finances, they need practical support for their health. From the overlooked signs of heart disease in women to the invisible load of caregiving, she offers a refreshingly direct blueprint: prioritize your body, protect your mindset, and take responsibility for your choices.
You’ll hear simple practices that build capacity—daily gratitude, compassionate self-talk, and quick “redirects” when life splats—plus memorable reminders like “stay vertical and keep smiling.” Autumn and Nancy swap real-life stories about asking for help, paying it forward, and scheduling what matters so you stay ahead of the wave instead of drowning in it.

Episode 146: Why Wellness?
[00:00:00] Introduction to Episode 146
[00:00:00] Autumn Carter: This is episode 1 46. We are talking Why Wellness.
[00:00:08] Welcome to Wellness In Every Season, the podcast where we explore the rich tapestry of wellness in all of its forms. I'm your host, autumn Carter, a certified life coach, turn wellness coach, as well as a certified parenting coach dedicated to empowering others to rediscover their identity in their current season of life.
[00:00:28] My goal is to help you thrive, both as an individual and as a parent.
[00:00:32] Meet Nancy Griffin: Women Worth and Wellness
[00:00:32] Autumn Carter: Today I have with me Nancy Griffin and she has, I love her business name and I wanna make sure I get this right. It's Women Worth and Wellness Incorporated. How great is that? It sums up everything that she does, and it's as soon as she came across to my emails.
[00:00:52] For my podcast, I said yes. And I even have her in for my solo podcasting spot because this feels [00:01:00] so aligned, something that I'm passionate about. Of course I'm gonna say yes to that. And we connected a little bit before hitting record and I had to tell her to stop talking 'cause we wanna get all the juicy bits recorded so everybody else can be in on this.
[00:01:13] Thank you Nancy, for being on. I will let you take it away. Tell us about you.
[00:01:21] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: So if I could wave a magic wand, we know about Taylor Swift and her Aris tour.
[00:01:28] I would have a worthy tour and I would just go and say, you know what, women, you are worthy. You are absolutely worthy. Step it up, put yourself out there because what you're doing is truly amazing. And Autumn, just before we started to record, told me she's the mother of four kids. Yeah. Really.
[00:01:49] This is what women are all about. This is really what women are all about. They have so much capacity and so much capability that really needs to be front and center [00:02:00] on the world stage. We see who in the world is running the world and you know what? We don't like a lot of the things that we're doing, so my passion is for women to step it up.
[00:02:13] Nancy's Journey: From Wealth Advisor to Wellness Advocate
[00:02:13] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: I started as a wealth advisor. No sooner was I in that wealth advisory role where you've gotta go find your own clients. You start out with a corporation that's in the wealth advisory business. You've gotta have all the credentials before they'll hire you. But as soon as you get there, they say, okay, we're gonna do all the training, but you've gotta go find your own clients and which is very smart because everybody is unique and you wanna work with people where you feel you can add your unique.
[00:02:46] Value. And so my choice was, let's start with women. And that was 1992 when I came in the business, 1994 when I trademarked the Women Worth and Wellness. But starting to work with women, [00:03:00] not exclusively, but just primarily doing different events and all sorts of things that we built out from that beginning was truly, amazing because as a wealth advisor.
[00:03:16] It's like going to a doctor they wanna talk about who are you? And the first order of business is they do blood work 'cause they wanna get a handle on what's the profile of this person that I'm about to look after. Same thing in the wealth advisory business. If you don't know your client, you're not going anywhere, anytime soon.
[00:03:37] And starting to work with women. What I discovered, they don't wanna talk about their wealth plan.
[00:03:43] The Importance of Women's Health
[00:04:02] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: They're talking about how do I survive every single day? And so that's when I realized these women are expected to be their onsite health practitioner. They're expected to know about the health and wellbeing of their parents, their in-laws their kids themselves, their staff.
[00:04:05] They've got a huge responsibility from a health standpoint to begin with. So that's when I said, you know what? And I remember my mother's word saying, if you don't have your health, you're not going anywhere anytime soon. So that's when I start to partner with not-for-profit health related organizations focusing on women's health.
[00:04:28] And I would do different events. Part of the strategy in doing that was to introduce my clients and their friends to health related organizations who can help them understand what some of those challenges are in that specific area. For example, we know the leading cause of death for women is heart disease.
[00:04:51] Not breast cancer. Breast cancer has done a super job of promoting, marketing, whatever, and I, have no intention of taking [00:05:00] anything away from what they've done. But the leading cause of death for women is heart disease and the symptoms for heart disease for women are very different than they are for men.
[00:05:13] How in the world would this woman who's expected to be the nurse practitioner for their whole family's health and wellness, know what those symptoms are? I'll pause here for a moment because Autumn, you may have another question.
[00:05:30] Personal Stories and Health Challenges
[00:05:30] Autumn Carter: Actually I was thinking about how I, just spoke to someone today and she thought she was having a heart attack and it was actually that she was severely constipated.
[00:05:43] And I was telling her it's actually super common and she felt so much better about it 'cause she was embarrassed.
[00:05:51] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: That's the whole issue. We get up every morning and we just expect our bodies to go, with our to-do list [00:06:00] and we keep on going until there's a showstopper, which is you got a pain, you got a cramp, you're concerned.
[00:06:06] And then immediately have to focus on your health. What I learned through this whole process is we focus on our health first. We have to make sure that we're healthy. Otherwise, who cares how much money you've got? 'cause a lot of people have to spend their wealth to look after their health. So let's focus on health to begin with and let's make sure that women.
[00:06:35] Are that much more aware of all the different challenges that women face. Your example is spot on. Like, how do you know what is going on in your body? Unless you have an increased amount of information or you have a trusted advisor that you can go to say, help me out. What is going on? I have a, [00:07:00] good friend's sister.
[00:07:02] Who was in the health area in her career. She's one of four in the family. She felt not well, and she was smart enough to check herself into the emergency of the local hospital. When she gets there, they do some tests and they find out that she's had a heart event. It's like what? How could she possibly have a heart event?
[00:07:28] She's very healthy. She's not overweight. She eats well. She exercises she's top of her game. How in the world, and this is often what happens. We've got her eye on the person that's overweight or too stressed or whatever, thinking, you know what? They're walking time bomb out of the blue. This one has a heart event.
[00:07:50] So they moved her into another hospital. They're gonna do more tests and then they're gonna move her into another heart specialist [00:08:00] hospital, and they will do more tests and they will either decide that she needs a stent or she may need open heart surgery. And that all just came. I don't feel very well, I think there's something going on, but she was smart enough to get herself to the hospital.
[00:08:18] Into the care of professionals who can diagnose what's going on and give her good care, rather than women saying, I'll be fine. I'll be fine. We got a lot of people here this weekend. I'll be fine. No, you won't be fine. You've gotta look after yourself first.
[00:08:35] The Role of Self-Care and Wellness
[00:08:35] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: It's like the oxygen message that we get on every flight we take.
[00:08:40] Oxygen goes on you before you can help anybody else.
[00:08:45] Autumn Carter: There. I interviewed somebody recently on my podcast all about hormones, and I really like what he said, nobody wins an award for enduring the most pain. I'm sure I still didn't say it quite the way he said it, but it was just one of those, okay, say that again For the people in the back.
[00:08:58] Because we tend to [00:09:00] just suffer through things and it's very needless, and especially women, and we have so much data on the reasons why. For one thing, for getting an IUD, we don't get any pain management at all. We just suck it up. It's not that painful. Have you tried it? Male doctor who's doing it? We have so many instances of this,
[00:09:25] it is that reminder that we need to be checking in with our body and we need to be following our intuition of doing the right thing. And that makes a big difference, especially because symptoms don't show up like you said, the same in women as they do for men.
[00:09:42] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: And, also just building on what you said, women really need to speak up and speak out really. Like I do have pain. This is hurting. Help me. What would you recommend? What should I do? And really, we are our number one [00:10:00] asset. And if we don't look after ourselves exceptionally well, who will?
[00:10:07] If we do that, then we become role models to others to look after themselves. You are your own number one asset, which is very special, very unique, and there are lots of professionals who were there to serve you well. You just need to find them and ask them to help you.
[00:10:30] Autumn Carter: This is just my really good reminder that, so I was in a car accident in October.
[00:10:37] Wasn't even that bad of a car accident. It was the fact that I was actively turning left when he decided to use my car for his brakes instead of zoned. So my seatbelt didn't catch me right away. I was very close to the steering wheel when it finally caught me. And it's been just the last month that it does not flare up.
[00:10:58] I went through more [00:11:00] acupuncture. I was already doing, acupuncture was almost done. It was feeling great. It happened that same day that I had acupuncture. I'm like, I feel great. Everything feels aligned. So when I saw her a day later, she's really? I just mixed you. I was complaining along with me. But I dove into reflexology more yoga added on a lot of massage, more chiropractor care.
[00:11:25] I started throwing everything that I could at it. It started affecting my sleep. So sleep specialist lots of other things. And it is because I am now getting officially to middle age and. I don't want this to be actually my middle age. I wanna live past 80. You will. And knowing that, I don't wanna just barely make it.
[00:11:51] I don't wanna be that woman who is in the nursing home, that's mostly vegetable. I wanna be active, [00:12:00] alert, have my body functioning properly, and have all of my body feel like it is and look like it is younger. I'll take a little extra sass too 'cause I'm older and I can get away with it.
[00:12:14] Go for
[00:12:14] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: it.
[00:12:15] Autumn Carter: It's the realization, what do I need to be doing now? So I've really been checking into that, been really living that, and then also sharing that with my clients. But it is that oxygen mask thing, and that's what I'm realizing as a coach is I need to be taking care of my wellness and be in top shape so that I can then.
[00:12:35] Be that example to others.
[00:12:38] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: But autumn, you've got a tremendous amount of responsibility with four children. Yes. I would think subconsciously your mind is saying, oh my God, what if something awful had happened? So that really no. Was in the
[00:12:54] Autumn Carter: car. Thankfully I left early because it was raining and I was on my way to preschool to pick up my youngest [00:13:00]
[00:13:00] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Right.
[00:13:00] Autumn Carter: Yeah,
[00:13:01] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: no and that, in itself needs to be dealt with. Now I'm working with Women Worth and Wellness and doing all the things that I'm doing, but when I had clients whose responsibility I had to make sure that they had everything in order in case something like that happened.
[00:13:19] Having that level of confidence that all your affairs in order is enhancing.
[00:13:26] Autumn Carter: Oh yes, I said, and we waited too long. We waited until my youngest was a newborn, it should have been with my oldest, but at least it was done.
[00:13:35] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Yep. Because we never know Often people say in case something should happen guess what?
[00:13:43] Something will happen. If you can live to be 98, this is a bonus. This is wonderful. We all aspire to being there, and you're right. We don't wanna be in that long-term care where somebody says, what is your favorite vegetable? We do not [00:14:00] wanna be that person. Not at all. So what do we need to do now in order to be there?
[00:14:05] But at any moment in time, you really want to have all of your affairs in order because we don't know when. Something could possibly happen. And once you've got all your affairs in order, that in itself gives you a huge level of calmness and confidence. It's run me over. I've got, I've dealt with all of this.
[00:14:29] I've anticipated this. And everything's in order. But you know what? Not now. Not today. That's what I'm
[00:14:36] Autumn Carter: smiling at. For me it's more wait, I have more life to live. I have more that I wanna give. I have more people I wanna help and I want my kids to be older. If I went today, my 4-year-old, how much would he remember of me?
[00:14:50] 'cause he's so little,
[00:14:52] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: right? Exactly. You are creating a special legacy every single day, which is so important. [00:15:00]
[00:15:00] Autumn Carter: That's correct. And you know what I write down, so I have a moment in my journal where I just write down whatever's on my mind. Almost always, one of the first things in there is sleep.
[00:15:11] Because before that, I'm logging my sleep and it's always that. Oh, I could do better.
[00:15:16] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: I could get that. Not enough. Not
[00:15:18] Autumn Carter: enough. Not enough. More and more. And that is a really good precursor to having heart issues, right? Or getting enough sleep.
[00:15:28] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Exactly. Life is a challenge, but it's also a gift.
[00:15:32] That's why they call it the present. I like it. Which is so, true. Really my, mo that I say to people is, stay vertical and keep smiling like being alive is a gift. It really is. We see what in the world is going on and the fact that we're still vertical and we're still smiling and we have enough to eat is a huge.
[00:15:58] Plus. [00:16:00] We're blessed. We really are blessed, but because we're blessed, that means that we need to take really good care of ourselves because we have that much more to do. And you with your business, influencing others helps. It's a ripple effect. You help others to stay vertical and keep smiling and what can be better than that, really, that in itself is fabulous.
[00:16:27] Autumn Carter: That's one thing I want. So thinking funeral is I want people to be there that have said that I have positively touched their lives.
[00:16:37] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Wonderful.
[00:16:38] Autumn Carter: I don't want people there out of obligation or out of needing to have closure because we had issues. I want it to be because I positively influenced them and they were able to then go and do good.
[00:16:52] I really like the idea of pay it forward. I remember reading the book and watching the movie and it was one [00:17:00] of those, yes, this is exactly what I want.
[00:17:04] Gratitude and Positivity in Life
[00:17:04] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: One of the things that I talk about a lot recently is that living your life is like a split screen and all that negativity that pops up faded to black, default over to the other side.
[00:17:17] Let's focus on all the things that you have that are working exceptionally well. Do that inventory on all your blessings, and that in itself is inspiring. Then the next question is, okay, if I am lucky enough to have all of this, how do I enhance that even further? How do I make it even stronger?
[00:17:40] Because often we default to everything that isn't working, rather than focusing on what is working. And how we can make that stronger or better. What else can I do to enhance everything that is going on currently?
[00:17:58] Autumn Carter: I think even just starting, [00:18:00] if you're just starting out, starting with a gratitude practice right there is huge for so many people and not done often enough.
[00:18:10] And then the next step is a really big step. And bringing you to positivity. And I really, love that. I was thinking about how, so we are going to be needing to buy a new AC unit for our house. Wow. Yay for adulting.
[00:18:32] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Yes.
[00:18:32] Autumn Carter: Thankfully my husband, he is using his engineer brain.
[00:18:35] He's getting quotes from different companies and comparing them and everything else and coming to me and we're coming together. But I'm really letting him choose 'cause he has an engineer mindset and that's your strong suit. We're gonna go with that.
[00:18:48] But he said it was so funny to me just a couple hours ago that so blessing wise, lemme start there. [00:19:00] We had somebody come out who's a brother of somebody who did the duct work when we finished our basement. The brother who did the duct work was too busy, so he recommended his brother. They have similar companies.
[00:19:12] I don't know why they don't work together. It's weird. But they live in different counties as well. Anyway, the brother came over and while he was here yesterday, he replaced the parts and he has our AC working. Whoa. Who knows how long it'll be working for? My husband and I were having that conversation of he said that we need to have air conditioning.
[00:19:36] And I said actually, he's okay, for our lifestyle, and I know you sleep better, and when you sleep better, you function better. So can you tell? Sleep's really been on my mind. It's just funny to me that our idea of needs changes as we uplevel our life each time, especially when we live in a first world.
[00:19:57] So that related to what you're talking about, [00:20:00] but there's also the gratitude part of, it's not as hot as it was last week. It's actually been really mild here in Maryland. And he was able to fix it.
[00:20:13] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Wonderful.
[00:20:14] Autumn Carter: And he didn't charge us either, which is weird.
[00:20:16] We, wanna pay for what he did. And we've had several other blessings that happened right around that same time. And it's been really nice, especially while we've been stressed over having to spend money that we weren't expecting to spend. We were planning to put this money somewhere else.
[00:20:35] But the fact that we have that ability to do the things that we do, sometimes we forget that when we're too busy focusing on the negative, which if I was so focused on we have to buy a new AC unit, and I thought it would be double the price then what the quotes are coming in at.
[00:20:53] Exactly. And it's remembering that gratitude it is so hard because we are conditioned the other way. [00:21:00] What makes national headlines is not good news. Never.
[00:21:02] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: No.
[00:21:03] Autumn Carter: Yeah.
[00:21:05] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: So no. They always put those little good news vignettes on at the last minute for a 32nd clip.
[00:21:11] Yep. Which is amazing. But to your point. Autumn.
[00:21:16] Unexpected Acts of Kindness
[00:21:30] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: I think what's really, important, 'cause we're so focused on our to-dos and moving forward and everything that's going on in our lives, but often out of the blue goodness comes when it was least expected. It's like a kind of like a 360 at all times.
[00:21:34] Pay attention to what's going on because we know the universe is unfolding and who knows what's coming our way. Who knows? I was out for dinner with, we had a good friend visiting us and I wanted her to meet a good friend of mine who lives close by. So my husband and I are with these two women. And this friend who was coming, we agreed that we'd split the bill.
[00:21:56] So we go to this great place. It's outdoors, it's fabulous. We're [00:22:00] having a great time. They're having a good conversation back and forth. Everything is tickety boo. Everybody's having whatever wine or cocktails they want and choosing their menu item, which is super.
[00:22:10] Why don't we have two desserts and share. Okay, good. Anyway, we've had a great time to go. We'd like the bill. So the waiter comes back. And this friend is so funny because this waiter, we've seen him before and he's so cute and she's twice his age, but she's just loving every time he's coming to the table.
[00:22:29] So he comes and we said, no, we just one bill. 'cause we're going to split it. He says, it's been looked after. We went, what? No, he said it's been looked after. So at our behind me, so I didn't really see this couple, so this couple sort of 50 ish and afterwards the comments were we thought that was weird because they weren't conversing.
[00:22:58] They each had their phones on the table [00:23:00] on a stand, and we, none of us knew them out of the blue, this couple has paid our bill. They're long gone. Then of course we're in shock and then we replay our conversation. Was our conversation that engaging that somebody's one, my friend who I wanted the other one to meet is a real estate agent.
[00:23:25] So we thought maybe she knew them. She's I've never seen them the only thing that we could take away from that evening that we were four of us were totally shocked about is you'll never know who these people are. The chances are you'll never see them again.
[00:23:41] But the message that's being given to each of us is to pay it forward. The bill would've been two 50 before the tip, so you see your reaction. Okay. Go out and do something exceptional for somebody else and shock them the same way. We're [00:24:00] shocked.
[00:24:00] We laugh and say let's go back to that restaurant and say, when do you think those people might be here again? But just shocking. We couldn't believe it. Couldn't believe it. We still can't believe it.
[00:24:14] Autumn Carter: That's amazing. When my third was born, my gallbladder totally was done.
[00:24:19] I was already having issues with it. That was like, done, we're maxed out, we're done.
[00:24:24] Unexpected Health Challenges
[00:24:37] Autumn Carter: And I would be in pain for up to three hours and it would come on out of nowhere. My husband tells me we can't do this, and I'm like, no duds happening to my body. He works an hour away and you have a newborn, you're nursing.
[00:24:39] And the newborn. Did not like my milk whenever I had a gallbladder attack. I, guess it tasted funnier. I don't know. We had just moved to, and so we didn't really know people at our church. We are religious. And.
[00:24:56] Support from the Community
[00:24:56] Autumn Carter: They knew we had a baby and they knew we just moved in and they [00:25:00] asked if we needed help and I said no originally 'cause we were doing okay.
[00:25:05] And then when that started happening, I said Yes. And I'm having surgery. We don't know anyone around here. I need somebody to watch my two other children. And they came, these two women came. Wonderful.
[00:25:18] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Wonderful. The thing
[00:25:19] Autumn Carter: is, I'm still, I still know one of 'em. The other one must have moved away. I haven't seen her for a long time, but I will remind her of the story and she doesn't remember.
[00:25:28] She has really good feelings towards me, but that's the way she lives. This for everybody else, I'm nothing special for her besides just as a person. Yes. But she is so special, so dear to me. I loved sharing the story with, she moved away for a little bit and her daughter-in-law and her family moved in and I told her the story and she's that sounds just like my mother-in-law.
[00:25:50] But I love sharing that with other people who know her to be like, do you know how special she is? And if she's in the room, she's okay,
[00:25:57] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: isn't that fabulous?
[00:25:59] Autumn Carter: Yes. And [00:26:00] the moral of that story for me is to live like that where you are willing to do that for other people. And for her it really was no big deal to come and babysit and to make sure we had some meals provided afterwards.
[00:26:13] Some other people from church did that too. And my husband took our newborn so that the newborn was cared for, but he was also there to take care of me in case, have forbid anything happened. But it was no big deal for her to do that. But it meant the world to our family.
[00:26:31] The Importance of Accepting Help
[00:26:31] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Key point autumn, is you said yes. I need some help. I'll be fine. Good for you.
[00:26:38] Autumn Carter: It was hard to do it too, and I've learned so many lessons from that because I know when I've been given the opportunity to help people, when I've been wanting to, and they finally say yes.
[00:26:49] They're finally like, okay, now I'm ready. That it makes me feel good. It lights me up. I'm very much that type of person, and [00:27:00] more than that, it's when it's something that's so aligned and so special for them, it's usually hardly anything. It takes hardly anything for me. But seeing that it means the world to them is something that is so special and sacred, really
[00:27:16] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Exactly.
[00:27:17] Giving Back and Feeling Worthy
[00:27:17] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: That's where the worth comes from because I did a lot of events with not-for-profit, health related organizations focusing on women's health. And when I did these events, it was twofold. One was to introduce my clients and their friends to some new contacts, some new information, but at the same time, they would donate 25 or $50.
[00:27:41] And that enhances their net worth. 'cause that's a charitable donation. You build it into your tax return. But to your point, when you are giving or you are sharing, then you feel better. So the dividend comes back to you when you are giving and never stop [00:28:00] realizing that you gain, if not as much, if not more.
[00:28:05] When you share and you give Also when you accept help. When it's offered because that other person is being given a gift, they want to help and you're giving them that gift. That's the worthy component.
[00:28:21] Autumn Carter: I just had the realization that you're gonna need to remember this 'cause something's around the corner.
[00:28:27] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Oh no, exactly. No, it's really, interesting. But there are lots of reasons why we don't do all the things that we know will pay dividends. It's no, I'll be fine. No. Oh, no, I can't let anybody into this house. If they came into this house and saw the way I lived and the laundry.
[00:28:46] It's no, I'll be fine. Nevermind. It's everybody's life, everybody. Nobody's life is perfect, absolutely nobody's life is perfect. If you know somebody's whose life is perfect, by all [00:29:00] means introduce me to them and quickly.
[00:29:04] Autumn Carter: Usually when somebody says that, I'll be like me just to get a reaction because the reaction is always amazing.
[00:29:10] There you go. And I have somebody who I am starting to coach and it's in person at her house and she loves me coming over because then she has the excuse to make sure her house is clean. Oh my. And I plan on, there's one space that she really wants to work on within her house, which.
[00:29:27] It sounds like we're just starting the, agreement and everything else, I told her, put down her wishlist and we're gonna really dive in to get like all the way down to the root of all the things. And I gave her a picture of an iceberg. I'm like, this is, you picture all of this. So we're getting through all the fluff, but write it all out.
[00:29:48] But one of the things that she wants to do is work on our office. So I plan on telling her next time I come over we're gonna check out your office together so that she can really, okay, what do I wanna do? And like really go [00:30:00] over it. And there's, such motivation on just scheduling with someone for something that you have been putting up.
[00:30:08] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Exactly.
[00:30:09] Autumn Carter: Schedule it out and all of a sudden you'll find a way to get it done. It's a priority.
[00:30:14] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Exactly.
[00:30:15] Autumn Carter: So how does that work in with wellness then?
[00:30:18] Balancing Wellness and Life
[00:30:18] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Scheduling it out And I think wellness is all about feeling on top of your game. Really not feeling succumbeded to all these stuff. All the stuff that piles on, like wellness is just being ahead of the game and, in so many ways, 'cause women are dealing with so much. You've got a career, you've got family, you've got money, you've got health, you've got. Relatives. It's all very challenging, but to the extent that you can have a plan that gets you ahead of that wave is the key to success. And I tell people, the best thing [00:31:00] you can do is know that you are the number one asset.
[00:31:03] Look after yourself, but spend time talking to yourself like, how am I doing? What didn't happen that I'd hoped would happen. How important is that? Is that really something that you're gonna get your shirt in a knot about? Where am I headed? What do I really want? What is really important to me? What are my priorities?
[00:31:25] I never like to focus on work life balance because we have a sense of which way we're headed. And of course, when we're in the middle of it, then stuff changes. So you just reprioritize consistently. You never feel that it's all piling in on top of you. You just say, this is fine.
[00:31:46] I can deal with this. I wasn't expecting this. This is more important than where I was headed. And you choose that as your new priority. And then when choosing that, then something else happens. This is what your life is [00:32:00] about. But to your point, at the end of the day, the hope is that you can have some peace.
[00:32:06] You say, you know what? Today had so many different things happening that I hadn't anticipated, but let's do an inventory. This was really great because I did a redirect and if I hadn't done a redirect, then this is what potentially could have happened that wouldn't have been so great.
[00:32:28] So give yourself that kind of credit when you do that inventory. Never be hard on yourself because you are the number one asset and you are the person that's got all sorts of possibilities ahead.
[00:32:42] Autumn Carter: I like that you used the word asset because you're talking, you come from the money background.
[00:32:49] And that's what I like about coaching is that really it is an investment in yourself.
[00:32:56] And you, it's a financial investment [00:33:00] too. It will absolutely pay off, but it's because I do wellness a lot more. So it covers all of the things it pays off in your health and everything else.
[00:33:12] Positive Self-Talk and Coaching
[00:33:12] Autumn Carter: And what I was thinking about is shortly after I started out my coaching journey, I'm not very many years into it officially into it.
[00:33:20] I've been doing it for a while without realizing it. Anyway, I took this course for coaches that was all about positive intelligence is what it was called. And our self-talk matters so much. And that's what I was thinking about was just our self-talk versus everything you're saying. I feel like that really sums it up and that's something that I'm going to tomorrow is the person that I'm seeing in person, and that's one thing that we're definitely going to be talking about is her self-talk.
[00:33:56] She's mentioned it several times. And [00:34:00] it makes such a big difference. And what's great about this course is I had to learn it for myself and reflect on it. And there have been several things recently that have come up and I just realized I had, have you ever had those moments where it just super settles on you?
[00:34:17] It was one of those, whereas I am doing so much better because I have been practicing this and something came up that was stressing me out and I just caught myself. Doing this, which was one of the tools that was taught in the course where you just rub your fingers together and you're doing it slow enough that you're actually feeling the fingerprints.
[00:34:40] And there were several other things that I learned that I was doing, and it was just reregulating myself and it made such a difference. And then the rest of the day went super positively. There were a lot of things that just felt like they fell into place using the air quotes here.
[00:34:56] Kind of like our AC yesterday. We don't know how long [00:35:00] it's gonna last with the new parts that he put in, but it still buys us time for us to get quotes and figure things out. Plus the air is nicer or the temperature is nicer outside. So all of this is aligning during a really great time because last week the temperatures are crazy.
[00:35:16] So there's things like this and. I could be doing the total opposite of talking down to myself. If I should have done this, I should have had this magic crystal eight ball. You know how we do those things and we'll do it like I should have known when there's no way to have known for certain things. And just the way that we talk about ourselves is crazy.
[00:35:38] I have another client and one assignment that I gave her is one that I've tested out for myself, and it's really great and it reminds me of what you were saying. It's where you go in the mirror and you start talking yourself up. And it feels so weird for the first week that you do it, and you're saying all these reasons why you did a good job today, why [00:36:00] you like yourself, and at the very end, I love you.
[00:36:05] And that part was the weirdest at first for me, was the I love you part and you're smiling at yourself. You're looking positive, the positive posture, all of that body language, but you're saying all the reasons why you did good things for the day, why you've done in good on life. And even with this client, she felt a big difference for myself.
[00:36:28] And I have not continued it. This is my reminder to do it tonight, but it still has had positive impact even with me not doing it every night. What if I continued doing it? How much bigger would it have been? And we have these things, these ideas that come to our mind that are so good, but we don't follow through with them enough because we're so busy,
[00:36:50] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: like you were saying, mine. But mindset is everything.
[00:36:54] Handling Stress and Redirecting
[00:37:10] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: And when a complete disaster happens. The idea should be bonus. No, I'm gonna really be tested. Like, how am I going to deal with this? Because I can deal with this. This is not the end of the world. I'm not dead. I'm still alive. I've still got my brain working.
[00:37:18] I still care about all the right things. So you just take a moment. You reflect and you do a reset, and you do a redirect and you rise to the occasion, and then that in itself, when you rise to the occasion, is big positives. As you do the inventory on how did I do with this? How did I deal with that? How did I deal with this?
[00:37:41] The worst thing that can happen is that you crumble and drop to the ground. That's not good because then somebody else is gonna have to help you. As long as you can help yourself and you can use your brain energy and your mindset to do a redirect, that's what the moment [00:38:00] requires.
[00:38:02] Autumn Carter: What would a redirect look or feel like?
[00:38:06] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: If it's a big splat, then you quickly do an inventory and then you say, okay, now what? How am I gonna deal with this? And then you work through. Different options. Pick the best one. Maybe it isn't the best, but that's the one you picked.
[00:38:25] You don't want to be waffling because indecision is like a cancer. You don't wanna be going in circles. You pick your best option and then you move forward and you give yourself credit for picking your best option in that moment. Which was extremely challenging and extremely stressful, but you've picked your best option and you work your way through it.
[00:38:53] Autumn Carter: I like that because we could absolutely pick a better option, but that's that. Hindsight, we don't have the magic eight [00:39:00] wall. My son has one. Can you tell? I keep talking about it, but. There is so much to be said about that. And you can always reverse course. You can always change course, and I think that's something that I've seen family members do and I, because I had that outline when I became an adult and was out on my own, I started doing that same thing where I was very stuck and this is the way it is and it's so difficult.
[00:39:30] It reminds me of driving in the mud. You're just spinning those wheels, that mud's coming up everywhere. You're not getting out of the mud and you're getting more frustrated. Yeah. And the way that you actually get out of it is you turn your wheels a little bit or you stick some rocks or a usually a log underneath it, and then you have traction.
[00:39:51] And there's so much to be said about the pause in there, like you were saying, taking that inventory. For me, [00:40:00] sometimes I need to get up, go for a walk, I need to do the somatics to shake it out. Go and complain to my husband. He's an engineer. He'll come up with ideas, right? He'll help you. Sometimes he gets the, no, I don't like any of them, but I have the idea of what I wanna do now.
[00:40:16] And he is correct. Why'd you call me? Anyway, there's the phone call or it's usually I'm thinking phone call, like he's at work or driving home. Sometimes it needs to be the, I just need to vent and then I'll have my own ideas come to me. I'm very much one of those. Think out loud when I'm really stressed out, I would go up to my math teacher saying, I don't know how to solve this problem.
[00:40:40] Okay, where are you stuck? Okay, it's Right here. Oh, I have the answer. And he would laugh at me every time. 'cause he'd have his mouth open. He had the big inhale to explain it to me and, oh, I don't need you anymore. That's all I needed you for. Yeah, bye-bye. Was just the support part.
[00:40:57] And my husband's that same way for me, [00:41:00] where I just need to think out loud, know that I have the space held for me. He's very much in the moment. And because I have that support, I can go and figure it out. That's invaluable.
[00:41:11] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: That, is so special.
[00:41:12] Autumn Carter: I'm realizing I can do that for myself.
[00:41:14] And I've really gone through that journey for myself and it's been so amazing to realize we all have that within us. We
[00:41:23] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: do.
[00:41:23] Autumn Carter: And so it's not just that person who has it. I have it too. So I can stop and really reflect and give myself that space to inventory to, okay, what if I do this? No, that doesn't feel right.
[00:41:35] And you choose the good, better, and the best.
[00:41:40] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: And it's just like our computers, when they challenge us and they shut down or they stall, then you're pushing all the buttons and eventually you get a redirect. It's okay, this is magic. On. We go, keep on going.
[00:41:53] You're on the treadmill. Keep going. This is just fine.
[00:41:59] Autumn Carter: I love [00:42:00] this. This conversation has been amazing.
[00:42:03] Final Thoughts and Contact Information
[00:42:03] Autumn Carter: Are there any final thoughts and after that, where can we find you?
[00:42:08] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: What I tell people we're in the process of coming up with some new offerings. We're not there yet, so we're on all the social media and I just tell people to send me an email.
[00:42:19] Because I consider myself to be a connector and an influencer, so whoever sends me whatever email about whatever. I will come up with a connection or a redirect or whatever. So my email is nancy@womenworthwellness.com, and I'm 24 7. So if I don't get you the night before, I'll get you the next day.
[00:42:43] And if you send an email, then you're in our database. So of course then you'll know what we're up to next. But really my, closing comments are very simply to just know that you are worthy, you are your greatest asset. You have the greatest [00:43:00] opportunity to be so fabulous that you just need to turn all of that back to you.
[00:43:07] Because when you invest back in yourself, then you're able to give that much more to make the world just a little bit more positive, because every person is unique. Every person has their opportunity to make a difference. So again, as I said earlier, you stay vertical and keep smiling.
[00:43:27] It's as simple as that. Keep going.
[00:43:31] Autumn Carter: And I love that. And that goes with the fake it till you make it with a smile. Because if you put a smile on, then your brain is going, why am I smiling? What am I looking for?
[00:43:41] And it helps really realign thing. I love that.
[00:43:45] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Correct. Especially as you present yourself to others.
[00:43:47] To yourself, but to others. 'cause then that comes back to you. You know there are dividends everywhere.
[00:43:48] Autumn Carter: Absolutely. How many times have you had a random stranger smile at you and it makes your day?
[00:43:53] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Y
[00:43:53] Spreading Positivity and Fun
[00:43:53] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: ou know what I love doing is someday when I'm feeling really frisky, you just go out and you look at people and you smile at them and they do a double take and they go.
[00:44:03] Do I know you? No, but I'm just having a great day and I just wanted to smile at you. And they go, that lady is really weird.
[00:44:15] Autumn Carter: But they're smiling afterwards. Exactly.
[00:44:18] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Exactly.
[00:44:19] Autumn Carter: Yeah. And I'll do the in the car waving at people and they're like, no,
[00:44:24] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: Hi. We used to have a lot of foreign students.
[00:44:27] And as we would drive through the countryside, 'cause I grew up on a farm. I said, okay, this is what you do. We blow the horn and you wave. And of course they'd go, who was that? Do I know who that? Just have some fun. Life is too short not to have a little bit of fun.
[00:44:46] Autumn Carter: We were leaving the gym today.
[00:44:48] I had all four kids in the car with me. And I honked my horn three times. They were like, what's going on? And there were kids for a different summer camp. They're Yay because they're doing the sign. I [00:45:00] explained this is the trucker sign because trucks back when there are still some trucks today, but there's like this string thing up above and you pull it to honk the horn.
[00:45:09] Yep. And that's easier to do this sign than to do this sign for right one that's in your steering wheel. And I was showing them, do you see how little effort that took me and how it Wonderful. That huge group of boys, it was mostly boys. It was a boxing summer camp, so right. Maybe one day there'll be more girls over there.
[00:45:30] Anyway, a whole group of kids, and my kids were so excited to see that. I got them excited. Wonderful. Great.
[00:45:38] Nancy Lynne Griffin- Women, Worth & Wellness Inc.: That's all it took. Great. Excellent. Yeah. If you're a farmer. Like the trucker, what you do is you go your arm up and your head down, like you're like this it's like a good day.
[00:45:52] Same idea, but good for you. That's exactly what life is all about, especially when you're being a role model to those [00:46:00] kids. Yep. Good for you Autumn. Well done. Wellness to the max. I, am trying to emulate it, so there you go. Wonderful.
[00:46:11] Autumn Carter: Thank you so much for being on.
